Squero di San Trovaso - Venice Watercolor Demo by Thomas W Schaller

I am a big fan of Thomas W Schaller, and here is a wonderful
Watercolor Demonstration of the spot where they fix and repair
Gondolas in Venice.

It is a comprehensive discussion of painting from a photograph
from start to finish with tons of great tips on composition,
values, and how to tell a story through a painting.

Well worth watching
Enjoy

Fishing Boats Graphite Drawing

I worked on this drawing a few days ago and posted it as a WIP.
Two people said I should keep the drawing as is, and do a new drawing instead for the Watercolor

After thinking it over that sounded like a good Idea.
Hope you can find a home for this drawing.
Cheers

WIP Blue & White Fishing Boats - Staithes

Blue & White Fishing Boats Drawing
I just love the composition of this, and the shapes of the Fishing Boats.
Not sure yet what the background is going to be, a nice sky for sure, the late afternoon sun is hitting the boats in the foreground, so it needs to be a very warm painting.

For this one I am not going to use ink, so I used a 2H pencil to pencil in the line.
I wonder how much of the pencil will show through when it is painted?

Watercolour Tutorial - How to paint a Beach scene by Tim Wilmot #3

Here is a really great Watercolor Demonstration by Tim Wilmot
Not only are his paintings wonderful, his demonstrations are very helpful, and it is nice to see someone actually showing you what to do and how to do it.

He has his Watercolor Palette on the right hand side, so you can actually see what colors he is using as he is mixing and painting.

I don't like to use the artist's photo to paint the scene, however if you want to paint the scene, you can click on Plage La Ponche, St Tropez to the Google Street View of Plage La Ponche, St Tropez.

This is one of my favorite Watercolor Demonstrations

WIP New 2020 Watercolor Palette Ink Drawing

Very late last night I got the urge to get to work, so I inked my pencil drawing of my new Watercolor Palette. I wanted a larger sketch, so I used my Moleskine 135lb CP 8.5 x 11 Watercolor Journal.

I didn't want the starkness of Black Ink, so I decided to use a Sakura Micron 01 Sepia Pen to ink the entire drawing
I love using Sakura Micron Pens all the time, they have Archival Inks, and are very light fast, and very economical, and last a long time

One last step before beginning, is to do some test drawing with different lines. In this example the 01 thickness line seemed much better than the 05 thicker line.

Now I am nervous about the painting part.

A New Watercolor Palette & Color Chart for 2020

A few months ago I bought a new  Mijello Watercolor Palette with extra trays, and a tight fitting lid, and I absolutely love it, and it will serve me for years.

I filled up the 18 wells very quickly, and added another six with some new colors to work with that I have seen other artist's use on a regular basis.

I was most excited to buy two new tubes of Daniel Smith Watercolors made for Master Watercolor Artist Joseph Zbukvic. They are his Zbukvic's Cool Grey and Warm Grey. I started using them, and very much like them, and will write another article on what I like about them.

I spent 3 days making this color chart with mixing each of the 24 colors with each other.
The Zbukvic Greys are columns 23 and 24 in the chart.

Let me know what you think.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
